Protecting Others Psychically

As you become more comfortable and skilled in protecting yourself, there will be times when you may want to shield another person or loved one. You can extend the protection skills you have honed for yourself to help others.

Many people feel that an essential first step in protecting someone is to first gain that person’s acquiescence. There is some wisdom to this. They may not actually need your help. If you see a loved one struggling though rough times they may need to experience these hardships in order to motivate themselves to find a solution. A person may also seem to be overwhelmed when in fact they feel they are handling the situation in the best way possible. Basically without directly asking the intended person if they need help, it is hard for us to make a fair judgment if any help should be given. So rule number one is to ask if your help is need before you provide it.

Ideally someone will ask you for help, thus bypassing this entire issue. Get as many details on what they need help with. Do they feel they are being psychically attacked? Are they seeking refuge from a situation that they actually need to face? Be as systematic and logical in assessing their needs as you would be with your own. If you don’t actually want to help this person then you probably shouldn’t attempt to shield them. Protection is so strongly based on will that a ward created grudgingly would be of little use.

Also, if the recipient of the shield practices magic themselves, you should ask if they’ve made any attempts on their own and if so of what sort. Discuss the nature of the shields they attempted to create, even if they felt it was completely ineffective. If the protection they tried to create was made to attack anyone back, was created during anger or frustration, or was anything more than a shell they wrapped around themselves, you will want them to first deconstruct those shields.

Preparing yourself is very important as well. Make sure you shield yourself well before doing magic for anyone else. If there are any unpredictable backlashes you will be glad you did. Build your energy levels up as much as you can. It will be more draining to create a shield for someone else. You should first shield yourself at least an hour ahead of time before you plan on doing magic for the other person. After you shield yourself you can ground and work on building up your energy levels.

When you’ve chosen a course of action and a method for shielding you next need to implement it. Find a quiet place to perform the magic where both of you won’t be disturbed. Ideally the intended subject will be in your immediate presence. The subject of the magic should be in a comfortable position so that they don’t need to move around much. They should occupy their mind as much as possible during the process. If they are capable of keeping their mind clear that is good. Otherwise you may have them visualize a place where they feel safe or a place the often like to visit. The reason for this is to keep their mental energies from interfering with your own. This also has a benefit for you as it can be hard to focus on the task at hand while someone is watching or scrutinizing you.

There is no set rule for the physical positioning between the caster and the recipient. Some people like to have their hands close to where they are making the shield, moving the hands up and down the body as it is created. Others are comfortable sitting away from the subject on a separate couch and passing the energy over the distance. Experiment and find what works best for you. When performing the actually shielding method you have chosen be sure that you are using your energy to wrap the recipient and not their own. A few of the protection techniques on this site involve charging ones chakras or psychic centers. You don’t want to visualize the chakras of the other person. It is your energy that you are using to protect them. Although most of the shield techniques given earlier can be used on another person, choose a means that does not directly involve the chakras at all. You can of course charge your own psychic centers beforehand to increase your energy level. Here is a fairly easy method you can use on another person.

The Blanket Technique

Visualize in the air between you a dot of pure blue light. Increase this light’s intensity until it burns very bright. Take this dot and trace with it a square twice as big as the person you are going to shield. This is the outline for the blanket we are creating and it must be big enough to wrap around the subject at the end. When you trace the outline of the blanket its lines should stay visible and shinning in your mind’s eye. Once the outline is complete, begin to pour energy into the square shape. Fill the square with as much energy as you can muster letting it fill the entirety of the shape and even become thick like a fluffy comforter. While you are filling the square with energy, be sure to acknowledge the protective powers you want to be inherent within. Think of the specific circumstance that they are seeking protection from and instill this energy with the power to resist and repel it. Once this blanket of energy it complete, move it to the subject and wrap it around them. It should reach completely around them, even covering the area above the head and below the feet. Allow it to become solid once all parts are covered. Hold this image in your minds eye for a good minute before letting it go.

You should put more energy into this other person’s shield than you would your own. Without being connected to any replenishing energy source, this shield isn’t going to last as long one of your own. You also want to make sure you clearly visualize any energy that is connecting between you completely dissipated. This is to ensure your energy is drained to support the shield.

The shield you create for another isn’t going to last as long as one created for yourself and if you intend for it to provide protection while under fire, you will have to recharge it at last once a week, perhaps even once a day. Before you attempt to recharge it, first try and sense what condition the shield is in. Is it still strong and holding up, is it rather weak, or has it collapsed completely? This way you can judge how much energy to use when you refresh it. If you feel the shield didn’t take or collapsed altogether, simply recreate the shield as you did the first time, but plan to check it and recharge in shorter invervals. If the shield is still holding up, recharging is very simple. Follow the short method below.

Recharge Ball Technique

Get into your ready state making sure to build your own energy levels up to a very high level. As with the initial creation of the shield, it is best to do this in person with the other individual in a very calm and relaxed state. Push your energy out in front of you and gather it into a ball. Charge the ball with as much energy as you feel the shield requires until you feel it is vibrant with light. Extend a thread from the ball to the shield of the other person. Mentally focus on the idea that the energy is going to pick up the same attributes that the shield energy already has. Poor this ball of energy slowly into their shield, visualizing it glowing more and more brightly as it is repowered until the ball is depleted completely.

Magic and the Bible

I was approached on the subject of Curanderismo (and any kind of magical art) being “against the teaching of the Bible and against God’s word”. The person that approached me attested that God said to stay away from this sort of divination (“card reading”) in the following verses…Deuteronomy 18:10-12 New International Version (NIV)10 Let no…

Lesson 11 – Cleansing & Blessing Spells

Basic Fumigation:

1 part White Sage

1/2 part Juniper Berries

1 part Desert Sage

1 part Rosemary

Sacred Purification Incense:

Dragon’s Blood

Sea Salt

Blessing – Steam Based Incense

1 – Gently warm Rose Water, add 1 tsp of sugar until it is dissolved.

2 – Add some or all of the following herbs: Rose, Sandalwood, Black Tea Leaves, Essential oil of Rose; Jasmine and Sandalwood.

3 – Simmer gently until the steam rises, use the steam to bless and cleanse.

House Blessing

You will need – A crystal, white candle, incense, rosemary, salt, bell, protection oil.

Hold the crystal between your hands and imagine your home to be a happy and joyous place.

Place the crystal in the area that you deem to be the `heart` of the house – this could be the front room, kitchen etc.

Light the candle and walk through each room in a clockwise motion; allow the candle to throw light into every area, including the corners.

Light the incense, and place on a dish – carry this with you into each room.

Enter each room with the bell and, in a clockwise motion, move through ringing the bell.

Mix the salt with some water and sprinkle the solution through each room, again in a clockwise motion.

Finally, anoint each door, window and other points where energy enters the house – this includes any modems and telephone points. If desired, you could use the oil to mark a protective symbol (such as a pentacle) in these areas.

**Please take care not to burn yourself with the candle or incense**

If you are experiencing a haunting, or an unwelcome entity then smolder the rosemary.

Candle Blessing

Take a white candle – either tapered or a figure candle to represent the person.

Carve the person’s full name onto the candle and anoint with a suitable oil.

Place the candle in the holder, and place the holder on top of a photograph of the person.

(If you cannot obtain a photograph then a personal item will suffice)

Light the candle and say:

*Name* – may you be blessed

May all good things come to you

May nothing cause you harm

May your heart be light

May your travels be safe

May your health be good

May your mind be sound

May your friendships be fruitful

May you be blessed in every-way.

Allow to burn for a period of time before extinguishing.

Repeat for 7 days.

Water Blessing

Holding up a small bowl of water say:

” Oh Great Ones, My Goddess and my God, I call upon you, In need of your help,

Bless this water,

Bless this water,

With you power,

With your purification,

With your healing powers,

Bless this water

With the water you so blessed, May this harm none,

The spell is done, So mote it be and blessed be.”

Put the bowl down, and now use the water for power, purification and healing.

The Yule Log History

The History of the Yule Log

Photo of a Yule Log by Wanye Camlin: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wcamlin/3128857279/

The tradition of yule logs has its roots in pagan rituals. In fact, the word “yule” is old English for a festival known to take place in December and January. Northern Europeans, like Vikings, celebrated the Festival of Yule to honor the winter solstice by journeying into the woods in search of a hearty oak tree. The event was a family affair, with family members venturing out in search of a choice cut of wood. They would return with the most robust log they could find and burn it in deference to various gods as well as in celebration of life and prosperity.

The custom of burning the Yule Log goes back to, and before, medieval times. It was originally a Nordic tradition. Yule is the name of the old Winter Solstice festivals in Scandinavia and other parts of northern Europe, such as Germany.

The Yule Log was originally an entire tree, that was carefully chosen and brought into the house with great ceremony. The largest end of the log would be placed into the fire hearth while the rest of the tree stuck out into the room! The log would be lit from the remains of the previous year’s log which had been carefully stored away and slowly fed into the fire through the Twelve Days of Christmas. It was considered important that the re-lighting process was carried out by someone with clean hands. Nowadays, of course, most people have central heating so it is very difficult to burn a tree!

Ultimately, the yule log was thought to determine a person’s good or bad luck, and there are many variations on this superstition. One European belief held that the log had to catch fire on the first attempt to light it, lest all the inhabitants of the home where it burned suffer bad luck. Another stated that the remains of a log must be kept for the following year’s ceremony for good luck, which would extend across successive generations. The ashes were sometimes stored under a bed in order to make a home immune to evil spirits and lightning strikes. English Christmas traditions called for the yule log to burn as a sign of goodwill through all Twelve Days of Christmas, during which time family members would refrain from labor to celebrate the season

In Provence (France), it is traditional that the whole family helps to cut the log down and that a little bit is burnt each night. If any of the log is left after Twelfth Night, it is kept safe in the house until the next Christmas to protect against lightning! In some parts of Holland, this was also done, but the log had to be stored under a bed! In some eastern European countries, the log was cut down on Christmas Eve morning and lit that evening.

In Cornwall (in the UK), the log is called ‘The Mock’. The log is dried out and then the bark is taken off it before it comes into the house to be burnt. Also in the UK, barrel makers (or Coopers as barrel makers were traditionally called) gave their customers old logs that they could not use for making barrels for Yule logs. (My surname is Cooper, but I don’t make barrels! My Great Grandfather did own a walking stick factory though!)

The custom of the Yule Log spread all over Europe and different kids of wood are used in different countries. In England, Oak is traditional; in Scotland, it is Birch; while in France, it’s Cherry. Also, in France, the log is sprinkled with wine, before it is burnt, so that it smells nice when it is lit.

In Devon and Somerset in the UK, some people have a very large bunch of Ash twigs instead of the log. This comes from a local legend that Joseph, Mary and Jesus were very cold when the shepherds found them on Christmas Night. So the shepherds got some bunches of twigs to burn in order to keep them warm.

In some parts of Ireland, people have a large candle instead of a log and this is only lit on New Year’s Eve and Twelfth Night.

Different chemicals can be sprinkled on the log like wine to make the log burn with different colored flames!

  • Potassium Nitrate = Violet
  • Barium Nitrate = Apple Green
  • Borax = Vivid Green
  • Copper Sulfate = Blue
  • Table Salt = Bright Yellow

This sounds very dangerous, so please only try this out with some adult supervision!!

The ashes of Yule logs were meant to be very good for plants. This is true, because the ash from burnt wood contains a lot of ‘potash’, which helps plants flower. But if you throw the ashes out on Christmas day it was supposedly very unlucky!

But France isn’t the only place that has adapted the concept of the yule log. Urban areas, like New York City, have high-density populations, and, as a result, space is at a minimum. Therefore, fireplaces are a rare commodity in apartments and condominiums. In 1966, New York City television programming director Fred Thrower had an idea for log-deprived New Yorkers. Thrower had his local station, WPIX-TV, broadcast a looping video of a blazing fireplace — with Christmas music playing in the background — beginning on Christmas Eve. The broadcast, designed to provide city-dwellers with holiday ambiance they might otherwise lack, was an instant success and became a Christmas morning mainstay on the New York station. It began airing on national cable networks, and in high-definition, in 2004

While a proper yule log isn’t a common sight in 21st-century fireplaces, it can be found in holiday kitchens — in the form of a dessert. Bûche de Nöel is of French origin and is a sponge cake replica of a yule log. It comes in flavors like chocolate and gingerbread and is frosted in a wood-grain pattern.

It’s believed that the dessert was created in response to French families who didn’t have a fireplace for a real yule log in their homes but wanted to share in the holiday tradition . Yule log cakes are readily available in French bakeries, but many residents in the United States must make their own version of the delicacy from scratch.

A Chocolate Yule Log or ‘bûche de Noël’ is now a popular Christmas desert or pudding. It’s traditionally eaten in France and Belgium, where they are known as ‘Kerststronk’ in Flemish.

They are made of a chocolate sponge roll layered with cream. The outside is covered with chocolate or chocolate icing and decorated to look like a bark-covered log. Some people like to add extra decorations such as marzipan mushrooms!

Protection 2: Tips for self protection

Protecting yourself

  • wear a silver pentacle
  • bless a piece of jewelry and wear it for protection as an amulet
  • take a hot bath with salts and/or herbal oils (garlic is a powerful protective herb for any use, however lavender is a popular and most effective and easy to find herb)
  • adopt an animal you have a deep connection to magically and spiritually taking them on as a familiar
  • meditate to repair your aura and energies
  • have a hot compress on your solar plexus as you relax (of the aura or psychic energy field, and with spiritual and astral plane sensitivity, and is located just above the belly button.)
  • sun bathe (no not in a tanning bed but in actual sunlight, and not so much so that you become a crispy critter either)
  • find humor and laugh (It’s harder for negative things to latch on or affect you when you’re genuinely happy and light hearted.)
  • disconnecting yourself from the person causing the negativity (if it is a person)

Essentially these are more preventatives than straight up protection. Think of your self as a high end sports car. Now having a car alarm on it is very wise, but that won’t protect the car from you. The engine needs to stay clean and clear for it to run properly. The outside needs to be waxed to protect the beautiful paint job. The interior needs to be vacuumed and polished so it can withstand time and look good doing it. All these things are important now see that your self magical, mental, physical, emotional, intellectual, self is a high performance sports car.

Apologies for the silly analogy, but it’s simpler to understand how important it is to take care of yourself and how it directly contributes to it’s safety. Not all dangers are external as I expressed. I hope that these words are found useful to  those that are reading this.

While under attack try to avoid drugs, alcohol, sleeping pills, fasting, solitude, occult practices (meaning the negative and dark stuff), and objects with black vibrations/negative energy if possible. These things open tiny doorways in your life and manifestations, entities, or just plain bad joo joo can enter and possibly take root making your current situation that much more difficult. It doesn’t always happen, I’m just saying that it can.

Blessing 1: Book of Shadows

The purpose of blessing a new empty book intended for the keeping of your magical doings, is to not only protect it but also to cleanse it just in case it may carry any negative energies. Your BOS is one of your tools in your magical arsenal and is to be consecrated as such. A blessing does just that. It is also designed to align the book with your own energies and have your deities acknowledge it as a sacred text as it will be.

As with the vast number of traditions and styles of witchcraft, so are there many different blessings for a new BOS (book of shadows). Here I’m going to share the ones that I have personally used successfully. Some involve elaborate rituals, specific celestial events, the use of herbs, or just a short and sweet rhyme.

Whatever you choose, just be sure that it feels “right” to you and you will be successful. Just keep this in mind… stay fully focused on the task at hand or else it could not take or worse, backfire! This holds true for any craft you may attempt. Be sure you’re not thinking of any thing else aside from the outcome of the current spell craft you’re performing.

The following is basically a blank BOS blessing spell in which you can simply fill in the blanks with what suits you. This is merely a tool to aid you until you learn to write your own with confidence.

  • First and foremost cast a circle or any other calling you use as with any other spell or ritual.
  • Now we’re gonna purify the energies and then align them with yourself and your deity or element or spirit or whatever you work with. You can light candles, burn incense,  use stones or any number of tools for this blessing. It is really up to you.
  • On the first page Draw your symbol of your faith. For some it’s the pentagram, others it’s the trinity or the triple moon, or whatever made up one you come up with.
  • Beneath the symbol inscribe your magical name and symbol ( if you have or use one), the full date, and the intention of this book, such as, is this book to keep your spells in? Is it a journal? Is it simply your thoughts and philosophies? It doesn’t have to be a full on paragraph. In my books I simply write the word “spell” or “journal” somewhere on the page. This book is just for you so you do as you want with it. Remember that this is just a guide.
  • Copy down the blessing that is to be recited over the book, also on the first page or on the second if there isn’t anymore room.
  • Now that your book is stamped with your mark and intent recite your blessing over it. Simply it’s a prayer or rhyme stating your specific intent of the spell (your goal), the purpose of the book, and to whom or what you’re praying to. (three essential things for any spell)
  • Thank the Powers you consulted and close your circle or whatever.

Here are some blessings you can use or refer to when you write your own:

Blessing of the Book of Shadows
By Neo of TheWiccanWay.org

By gods of old and those yet born,

and the howling wind that proceeds the storm.

By the water that cleanse the soul,

And fire that burns ages untold.

And by the gentle earth from which we come,

This blessing shall not be undone.

This Book of Shadows I do bless,

as the elements will attest.

That this blessing protects this book,

from curious eyes that pry and look.

And from things that cause it harm,

this book I fill with knowledge and charms.

By my will this I do wish,

as I seal it with a kiss.

By my will, so mote it be!

Book of Shadows Blessing

( Witchin’ Words )

“In the realm of magick this book shall reside.
No one but the chosen shall see what’s inside.
If breath be to air as passion to fire,
Let harm come to none, this is my desire.
If life be to earth as water to emotions,
This book be filled with magickal potions.
May the Gods protect it, keep it from harm,
And upon it bestow power, magick and charm.
No one without wisdom shall peer at it’s pages,
The knowledge inside shall be handed down through the ages.
This book be it mine, it harbours no fears,
The knowledge obtained through blood, sweat& tears,
My magick’s my passion, the spirits my guide.
The book may she bless it with spiritual light.
And let only her children read of its rite.
For those of the Wicca truly can see,
That this is my will,
So mote it be!”

“Here as the Full Moon shines upon me,

Bless this Book I’ve made tonight.

I humbly ask this of thee,

Underneath your most sacred light.”
